Descriptions

A superb antique oval porcelain trinket dish by Edwin James Drew Bodley, dating to around 1876. Featuring a striking hand-painted Imari palette in cobalt blue, iron red, and lavish gilt highlights, the piece showcases Bodley’s refined craftsmanship and distinctive aesthetic. The sidewalls are richly decorated with alternating foliate and geometric motifs, bordered with elegant gilded trim.

Bodley was an esteemed Staffordshire porcelain manufacturer known for high-quality decorative wares produced during the late Victorian era. Operating between 1875 and 1892, his factory in Fenton was renowned for its bold colour schemes, often inspired by Japanese Imari patterns popularised during the Aesthetic Movement.

This piece is marked to the base with the crowned E.J.D.B. puce stamp used c.1876, alongside hand-painted pattern numbers. An excellent example of late 19th-century English porcelain artistry, ideal for collectors or display.
