Descriptions

This Antique Japanese Satsuma Vase is an exceptional example of Meiji period (1868-1912) craftsmanship, featuring a hand-painted design with Buddhist immortals (Rakan) and a serpentine dragon. The vase is signed 朝山 ‘Chozan’, indicating it was crafted in a renowned Satsuma studio of the late 19th to early 20th century.

The artwork is richly detailed, with gold embellishments, intricate facial expressions, and a striking dragon motif weaving through the figures. The raised enamel and finely detailed gilding showcase the masterful artistry of Satsuma ceramics. The elephant head handles add to its distinct appeal, making it a perfect piece for collectors of Japanese antiques.

Please note that the vase appears to have been exposed to heat, likely near a candle or heat source, causing some paint melting or running under the rim. This is not a factory defect but an effect of external exposure. There is also glaze wear on the handles and decorative areas, but no cracks or structural damage.
